Free One-Day Career Fair Links Employers With Job-Seekers 19 Spokane-Area Companies Seek To Hire In A Broad Range Of Positions And Professions
The experts will tell you that job-hunting is no picnic.
“Looking for work is a job in itself,” said Denise Jones, a counselor at Spokane’s S.L. Start & Associates.
“The better a person knows themself and their skills, and how their skills transfer to a job, the more likely they are to find the kind of job they want.’
Jones works with disabled clients, but the job-search principles she teaches them pertain to all job-seekers, whether they’re currently unemployed or simply looking for a better position.
“We teach people that the person who gets the job may not be the best qualified,” she said, “but they’re the person who know how to get the job.”
In addition to good grooming, a great resume and enlisting the right reference sources, a big part of knowing how to get the job is putting your face in front of as many interviewers as possible. And if you’re looking for that chance, The Spokesman-Review’s annual Career Fair is a perfect opportunity.
The Career Fair, which is free and open to the public, will be held Tuesday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Spokane Convention Center, W. 334 Spokane Falls Blvd.
Many of the Spokane area’s best-known employers will be on hand, including SeaFirst Bank, Dakotah Direct, Metropolitan Mortgage, the Principle Financial Group. and Waddell & Reed.
All told, 19 employers will seek new hires in areas ranging from Customer Service Reps to Electronic Technicians. Most of the positions are white-collar jobs.
More than twice the number of last year’s employers will be on hand.
But the Career Fair is more than an opportunity to meet employers: Participants will be able to sharpen their job-search skills at five, free seminars. Subjects include:
Search and Resumes, led by Denise Jones and Mike McCurtry, S.L. Start & Assoc.
