King Hussein Has Prostate Surgery

Associated Press

Jordan’s King Hussein had prostate surgery at the Mayo Clinic on Saturday and was resting comfortably.

Surgeons performed an hourlong procedure to remove part of an enlarged prostate gland. He was awake during the operation and went through the surgery “without problems or discomfort of any kind,” said Hussein’s private physician, Dr. Samir Farraj.

The 61-year-old monarch has been returning to the Mayo Clinic every year since 1992, when he had surgery to remove a cancerous left ureter, a tube that connects the kidney to the bladder.
