Booster Kept Buying

Compiled From Wire Services

A booster under investigation for alleged cash payments to players reportedly was allowed to buy special tickets from the University of Michigan more recently than the university reported to the NCAA.

The Detroit Free Press reported in today’s editions that booster Ed Martin got tickets from a pool the university athletic department makes available for people with close university ties.

Martin bought two tickets for the Feb. 18, 1996, game against Indiana, which is two years later than when university athletic officials said Martin last obtained such tickets, the Free Press said.

The university told the NCAA in March that Martin received free tickets or had been given a chance to buy tickets reserved by the athletic department 35 times in the 1990s. But the report said Martin had not received that kind of treatment since the 1993-4 season.
