Road Work To Disrupt Centennial Trail

From Staff And Wire Reports

Skaters who use the Centennial Trail in the Spokane Valley had better practice stepping gingerly.

Road work at Harvard Road means a short stretch of the trail will be packed, crushed rock rather than pavement, possibly until June.

People using in-line skates will have to walk, and county officials hope bicyclists dismount, since the area will be congested with heavy machinery.

Flaggers will help guide trail users when construction work is at its peak, said Chad Hutson, spokesman for the county public works department.

Crews are replacing the Harvard Road bridge over the Spokane River. Project engineers expect to have the $3.75 million project done in June. The trail could be repaved earlier, said Hutson.

Once the bridge is done, the trail will go under, rather than across, the road. There also will be better parking for trail users who leave their cars at Harvard, Hutson said.
