Belitz Befuddles Hilo As Cougars Win Again

Colleges

Todd Belitz tossed a seven-hit complete game while striking out 11 as Washington State ran its winning streak to three with a 6-3 baseball victory over visiting Hawaii-Hilo on Tuesday at Bailey Field.

Belitz (1-5) walked just one Vulcan batter as WSU (5-25) swept the two-game, non-conference series. The Cougars’ junior lefty was coming off a disappointing outing last week at Oregon State, where he walked seven batters in just over an inning of work. Brian Cook (2-4) took the loss for the Vulcans (15-23-1).

Jason Hairston powered WSU’s offense by collecting three hits, including his fourth home run of the year, and scoring twice.

The Cougars also benefitted from six Hawaii-Hilo errors that led to four unearned runs.
