Haskins, Conradt Honored
The University of Minnesota’s Clem Haskins and University of Texas’ Jody Conradt were awarded the first John and Nellie Wooden Award during a lucheon sponsored by the Utah Tip Off Club.
In presenting the awards, ex-UCLA basketball coach John Wooden called Haskins and Conradt “two of the finest coaches in the game who emphasize solid fundamentals, fair play and a spirited will to win.”
Haskins led the Minnesota Golden Gophers to the NCAA Final Four this year and posted a 31-4 record in winning the Big Ten championship. Conradt is the winningest coach in women’s collegiate basketball, with a 22-8 record in 1997, including the second round of the NCAA playoffs. In 21 seasons at Texas, Conradt has won 697 games, including the NCAA Championship in 1986.
“To know that John Wooden associates both his name and his wife’s name with this honor makes it especially significant,” Conradt said.
