Dutch Veterinarian Speaks For The Silent

Struggling against the currents of life? Feeling a little green around the gills? Then this is the place for you - if you’re a fish.

The patients never leave the pool at an unusual “fish hospital” set up by veterinarian Mario Blom in Hoevelaken, near Amsterdam.

Though Blom takes care of all kinds of pet fish, most of his charges are the expensive and long-lived Japanese koi that many Dutch keep in small garden pools.

“All through my veterinary studies I was obsessed with fish,” he said. “It’s a pity that their problems have been pushed aside for so long.”
