Mitchell Joins Usoc

Compiled From Wire Services

Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell is the new co-chairman of the United States Olympic Committee’s ethics panel.

The ethics panel, which was made permanent in 1993, was established following the embarrassing 1991 resignation of former USOC director Robert Helmick, who left amid conflict-of-interest allegations. Helmick, an attorney, reportedly had Olympic-related clients, which he allegedly failed to disclose to Olympic officials.
