Nic’s Rainer Makes Division I Commitment

Shawna Rainer, a Shadle Park High School graduate who has played two years at North Idaho College, will continue her basketball career at a Division I school.

Rainer, a 6-foot forward who was the third-leading scorer in Region 18 at 15 points per game, has committed to attend Boston College.

Rainer was selected to the AllRegion 18 and All-Region 18 Tournament teams.

One day after the 1997 NFL Draft, University of Idaho defensive end Barry Mitchell signed a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

A three-year starter for the Vandals, Mitchell finished his career with 47 tackles for loss and 28 sacks, No. 3 on UI’s career list in both categories.

Par took a battering during the Athletic Round Table Pro-Am stop at Deer Park Golf Club on Monday.

None of the leaders in either the professional men’s division or low gross amateur were threatened by the par-72 layout.

Pro Chris Curran of MeadowWood and amateur Dick Bingham of Spokane Country Club matched 6-under-par 66s to lead the way.
