Gunman Escapes With Money From Store

Spokane police are searching for an armed robber who held up a South Side 7-Eleven store early Saturday morning. The clerk told police a man pointed a semiautomatic handgun at him and demanded money from the cash register

The robber took money from the register and ran north from the store at 510 S. Thor toward Fifth Avenue.

The victim described the gunman as white, about 30 years old, 5-foot-10, and 160 pounds with brown hair and a beard.

The victim told police the man had a fresh cut on the left side of his face and it was visible through his beard.

Officers conducted a K-9 search in the area. Police recovered evidence from the scene and continue to investigate the crime.

Garage break-in investigated

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a business in the 1600 block of South Geiger Boulevard. A man told police he found the front door of his garage kicked in and a window broken.

The victim was unable to determine if anything was missing. The break-in occurred between 7 p.m. April 16 and 9:30 a.m. April 17.

Deputies look into two burglaries

A burglar made off with cigarettes and jewelry in a residential burglary near Cheney.

Someone broke into a home in the 11100 block of South Highway 904, on April 16, between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The victim called sheriff’s deputies and reported she found pry marks on the door jamb and puncture marks on the base of the door knob when she returned home from work.

The victim told police she discovered her daughter’s bedroom had been ransacked and that cigarettes and jewelry were missing. The stolen jewelry included a gold chain, gold ring, diamond stud earrings and a 1928 porcelain necklace.

The victim was unable to provide police with a monetary estimate of the items taken.

Tools and a 26-inch mountain bike were taken from an attached garage in the 33000 block of Tara between 5 p.m. April 15 and 6 a.m. April 16.

Sheriff’s deputies found no signs of forced entry.

Nine Mile home burglarized

A man returned home from work at 3 p.m. April 16 and noticed all the lights in his home were switched on.

The victim saw that the front door had been kicked in and his entertainment center had been stripped.

The break-in occurred sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. April 16 in the 16300 block of West Charles in Nine Mile.

Taken in the burglary were CDs, a compact disc player, a VCR and $260 in cash. The victim also told police that several gold rings were stolen, including his mother’s ring, a birthstone ring and a wedding band.

The victim was unable to provide police with an estimate of the value of the jewelry.

Gold coins missing

A man told sheriff’s deputies that someone broke into his safe and stole $25,000 in gold coins sometime between December 1996 and last Thursday.

The victim told police he stored a concealed safe in his garage, located in the 6100 block of North Garfield, north of Airway Heights.

When the victim opened the safe Thursday to check on his 500 coins, he discovered that approximately 65 of them were missing.

The victim told police someone had gained access to the safe because his combination no longer works. The victim noticed pick marks on the dead-bolt lock to the garage.
