Arboretum To Mark Arbor Day
A tree planting ceremony in honor of Arbor Day is planned for noon today at John A. Finch Arboretum just south of Sunset Boulevard.
State Land Commissioner Jennifer Belcher will join city officials and schoolchildren in planting a tree at the 12:30 p.m. event.
A Chinese elm tree purchased through a fund-raising drive by Hutton Elementary students will be planted in the Arboretum’s elm grove.
Eastern Douglas fir seedlings will be given to as many as 100 children who attend.
City parks officials will take the opportunity to promote their program to improve the health of Spokane’s urban forest, which was ravaged by last November’s ice storm. , DataTimes
