Microsoft Invites Gore To Session

Associated Press

Vice President Al Gore will attend a technology meeting in May to which Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates is inviting leaders of 100 of the world’s leading corporations, a newspaper reported today.

Gore’s visit, tentatively scheduled May 8 at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel here, would be his second to the Seattle area this year.

Gore, the Clinton administration’s point man on technology issues, also will visit The Boeing Co. during his trip, sources told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

The technology meeting May 7-9 will focus on technology and the way it affects business around the world.

The emphasis will be on business concerns facing all international corporations, rather than on Microsoft products, Microsoft officials said.

Topics will include how corporations coordinate technical standards - from the standard mouse and desktop icon to voice recognition.

State Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt said he had heard that Gore will dine with Gates during the visit. Gore’s oldest daughter, Karenna, has been working for Slate, Microsoft’s online magazine.

Gore was last in Seattle in January to inspect flood damage.
