Snyder Bows To Pressure, Returns To Senate
Senate Democratic Leader Sid Snyder said Saturday he is bowing to pressure and returning to the Senate seat he gave up in disgust.
Exactly a week after he announced his resignation and denounced the majority Republicans’ treatment of the minority and accused them of bending the rules, Snyder said in an interview, “I’m on my way back.”
The Long Beach Democrat, a millionaire businessman, said he changed his mind because of heavy pressure from both parties, the governor and scores of friends.
Snyder, 70, said in an interview that in making his 180-degree turnaround, he worried that it would hurt his credibility, but decided that, on balance, most people will understand his change of heart.
Snyder said that he had asked his aide, Nyla Wood, to send a letter of resignation, but she never did, hoping he’d change his mind.
That means he won’t need a formal reappointment.
