Murderer Gets 28-Year Sentence

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for stabbing a teenager to death in September 1995.

Bill Jarrad, 22, pleaded guilty last December to first-degree murder and second-degree assault.

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Kenneth Kato imposed the prison term on Friday.

Jarrad admitted to fatally stabbing 18-year-old Michael Loyola during a Sept. 29 party at a house on East Wellesley. The gathering of 25 people ballooned to 100, most of whom were univited guests, police said.

When the trouble started shortly after 1 a.m., Jarrad said he was trying to defend his brother, Calvin.

Eighteen-year-old Michael Dennis Jr. was also stabbed by Jarrad. The knife wound narrowly missed the teenager’s heart.

Jarrad had six prior criminal convictions, three of them for assault, records show.
