Ferry System Gets Little
Without an increase in the gas tax, Washington State Ferries came away with little from the just-completed legislative session.
The Legislature was able to take $470,000 from other ferry savings and put it toward the addition of a third boat on weekends on the route that connects Fauntleroy in West Seattle, Vashon Island and Southworth in Kitsap County.
The Legislature’s failure to increase the gas tax means a reduction in the number of passenger-only ferries to be built in the next few years and elimination of any new routes.
