Body Of Missing Hiker Pulled From River

From Staff And Wire Reports

Searchers on Monday recovered the body of a Tacoma man who fell into the Snoqualmie River while hiking.

The body of Doug Peter Boling, 24, was found in about 20 feet of water in about the same spot where he was last seen alive, King County police spokeswoman Joanne Elledge said.

A Pierce County sheriff’s swift-water team dived into the turbulent water to retrieve the body.

Boling and a female companion were hiking Sunday morning on a narrow trail about four miles north of North Bend when he lost his footing and fell about 20 feet down an embankment into the river, Elledge said.

Boling apparently hit his head but remained conscious and grabbed onto a rock in the water while his companion went for help.

When search and rescue crews got to the scene, Boling had disappeared.

Crews searched without success Sunday and resumed looking Monday morning.

Boling was apparently pulled under by strong, whirlpool-like currents, Elledge said. Boling worked for United Parcel Service, she added.
