Norman, Faxon Lead Meyer

Compiled From Wire Services

When it comes to golf, Greg Norman and Brad Faxon seem a perfect pair.

Norman and Faxon, looking for their third consecutive Fred Meyer Challenge title, combined for a tournament-record 11-under-par 60 and a two-stroke lead halfway through the team event they’ve dominated.

In their past 90 holes at the Oregon Golf Club, since 1995, Norman and Faxon are 42 under par on the hilly 6,914-yard course carved into the headlands above the Willamette River south of Portland.

Fred Couples and John Cook were alone in second at 9-under 62. Cook won with Mark O’Meara in 1994.

Crowd favorites Arnold Palmer and tournament host Peter Jacobsen are three shots back at 63.
