Fire Near Asotin Extinguished

Associated Press

An Eastern Washington wildfire has been put out after burning 10,000 acres of grassland, and authorities Tuesday were patrolling the charred site for flare-ups.

The lightning-sparked blaze burned mostly privately owned grassland about eight miles west of this town along the Idaho border. No injuries were reported and no buildings were damaged, Asotin County Fire Chief Herman Eiting said.

Most of the 225 firefighters who worked the fire were sent home Monday, Eiting said. Crews from the U.S. Forest Service, state Department of Natural Resources and five counties were dispatched after the blaze was reported Saturday.

About 20 remained at the site Tuesday afternoon.
