Warning Issued About Bogus Shriners
Spokane police are warning people about a door-to-door scam in which well-dressed men ask for money to support the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Administrators say the hospital never solicits in person or by telephone. Most of the fund-raising is done by local Shriners. And they raise money through events.
“Normally, you would never find a Shriner going door-to-door. We just don’t do that,” said Marilyn Scahfer, local Shriner’s office manager.
Police are asking anyone approached by the solicitors to get a description of the men and of any vehicle they may be using, and to then call Crime Check at 456-2233. , DataTimes
