Trainer Richard Mandella’s formidable 1-2 punch of Gentlemen and Siphon finished in that order in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar (Calif.) on Saturday, giving the trainer an unprecedented five consecutive wins in Southern California’s $1 million races for older horses.

Malvern Burroughs made a patient and gutsy move on the inside with Malabar Man in the stretch to become the second amateur driver ever to win the $1 million Hambletonian at East Rutherford, N.J.

Malabar Man finished a length in front of Take Chances, timed in 1:55. Armbro Plato finished third, 2 lengths farther back.
