Five Mile Fire Blamed On Arson

A 17-acre fire on Five Mile Prairie Thursday was arson, according to Spokane fire investigators.

“We found some evidence at the place where the fire started,” said Capt. Ernie Nye.

Nye declined to provide details until the investigation is finished.

“We have several people of interest whom we are trying to locate,” said Nye.

The fire started on a dry hillside across from the Strong Road water tank and spread to the prairie.

The fire was contained within a few hours, but crews remained on the scene for 24 hours dousing hot spots, according to Nye.
