Denver To Get New Arena
Calling it the end of a three-year odyssey, the city of Denver and Ascent Entertainment Group announced an agreement Tuesday to build the $165 million Pepsi Center - a deal that would keep the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche in Denver for another 25 years.
Ascent, which owns the Nuggets and the Avalanche, and the city have been trying to hammer out an arena deal since 1994.
The 675,000-square-foot arena will have 95 luxury suites, 1,850 club seats and a 250-seat restaurant.
With the new luxury arena in the offing, the Avalanche faced a more immediate concern Tuesday - whether to match the New York Rangers’ $21 million offer to center Joe Sakic.
The deadline is today at 5 p.m. PDT, and a team spokesman said the club would not comment on its plans.
