M’S Executive Denies Henderson Rumor

Summer re-runs have begun in earnest in San Diego, where there are radio reports that Padres outfielder Rickey Henderson is about to join the Seattle Mariners - a story very similar to those that appeared throughout spring training.

“It wasn’t true then, it’s not true now,” one Seattle executive said.

While the Mariners are open to adding a veteran right-handed hitter over the final weeks of the season, the team insists it isn’t close to a trade.

“We’re always open to adding a player who could help,” said Lee Pelikoudas, the Mariners assistant general manager, “but there’s nothing imminent.”

And the Rickey Henderson rumor?

“Don’t listen to the rumors,” Pelikoudas said.
