Lifeguard should have notified parents first
Lifeguards are baby sitters.
Forty years ago, I managed swimming pools in the Midwest. We would not have dreamed of sending a child home until we notified the parents or somebody that was responsible.
I swim every day in one of the city’s public pools and I must say some of the lifeguards could be more mature. Reading, talking, eating and not paying much attention are not very professional.
It is very easy to send a swimmer out of a pool. I would have liked to have done it many times when I was teaching school (that is, send kids out of class). However, I had to go through all kinds of channels before this could happen. Beth M. Shaw Spokane
