School District 81 Has Made Its Wishlist Board Members Will Vote On The Budget In October
Spokane School District 81 officials have put together a $70 million plan to improve public schools.
If administrators and school board members agree on a wish list, taxpayers could see a bond issue on the ballot next February or March.
The school board is expected to approve the wish list in October, board members said.
New computers for all District 81 schools and upgraded electrical systems to handle the technology would cost $24 million.
The most expensive project is a $42 million renovation of Lewis and Clark High School downtown.
Here is what the district is recommending for schools on the North Side:
High schools
North Central: Provide additional classrooms and physical education space; improve accessibility, equity and safety in existing locker/shower rooms. Expand library, media and computer area.
Estimated cost: $4.9 million.
Rogers: Replace gym locker rooms with new locker rooms, public restrooms, new gym and additional classrooms. Remodel auditorium and administrative office area.
Estimated cost: $5.95 million.
Science room renovation:
Renovate and upgrade science rooms at Rogers, North Central and Shadle Park.
Estimated cost: $1.5 million (Money would be shared with Ferris).
Auditorium improvements:
Upgrade auditorium lighting and sound system at Shadle Park.
Estimated cost: $620,000 (Money would be shared with Ferris).
Middle schools
Garry: Provide additional indoor physical education facilities and improve heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
Estimated cost: $2.5 million.
Elementary schools
Browne: Replace current building with new facility at the existing site.
Estimated cost: $7.7 million ($5.2 million proposed bond, $2.5 million state matching funds).
Library remodels: Expand and remodel library and media center at Madison.
Estimated cost: $600,000 (Money would be shared with Pratt and Wilson).
Indian Trail: Complete irrigation and landscaping on site west of the school.
Estimated cost: $400,000 (Money would be shared with Adams).
