Packers Look Sharper In Win

As if the Green Bay Packers don’t have enough weapons already, rookie punt returner Darren Sharper has given the defending Super Bowl champions yet another one.

Sharper set up three touchdowns, and the Packers scored on three of their first four possessions en route to a 35-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday in the American Bowl in Toronto.

Jets 27, Giants 17

At East Rutherford, N.J., Glenn Foley threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to rookie sensation Dedric Ward and the Jets overcame a 10-point second-half deficit by scoring on four consecutive long drives to defeat the Giants.

Redskins 35, Falcons 31

Atlanta, behind Chris Chandler’s three touchdown passes, built a 28-6 lead in the first half, but Washington rallied for a 35-31 victory as Mark Hartsell threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Christopher Sanders midway through the fourth quarter in Atlanta.

Gus Frerotte, playing into the opening minute of the fourth quarter, passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns.

Eagles 24, Ravens 13

At Philadelphia, backup running back Charlie Garner had 72 total yards and a touchdown as Philadelphia won its first game with a victory over winless Baltimore.

Raiders 18, Saints 16

At Oakland, Calif., Cole Ford hit three field goals, including a game-winning 39-yarder in the fourth quarter, to lead Oakland past New Orleans.

Bucs 24, Dolphins 10

Tampa Bay ended a preseason touchdown drought, scoring twice in the first half on the way to a victory over Miami in Tampa, Fla.

Trent Dilfer ran 2 yards on a perfectly executed quarterback bootleg play for the Buccaneers’ first TD of the exhibition season.

Bengals 37, Vikings 13

Cincinnati’s new defense finally clicked, returning a fumble and an interception for touchdowns that set up a victory over Minnesota in Cincinnati.

Chargers 21, Oilers 7

In Nashville, Tenn., Terrell Fletcher scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and Jim Everett added a TD pass as San Diego beat Tennessee despite losing running back Gary Brown to a knee injury on the second play.

Cardinals vs. Bears, ppd.

In Chicago, heavy rains and wicked lightning forced the postponement of the game between Arizona and Chicago.

The game was rescheduled for 5 p.m. PDT today after Cardinals players voted to play on what should have been a day off.
