Netscape Browser Counters Microsoft

Associated Press

Netscape Communications Corp., fighting inroads by Microsoft Corp., has introduced a separate version of its latest Internet browser, previously available only in a software package for large businesses.

The company also made an aggressive bid for the home and smaller-business markets, announcing partnerships with major computer manufacturers and Internet service providers.

Netscape is the leading maker of software moving about the Internet. But it has been facing fierce competition from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer program. Microsoft has eaten into Netscape’s market share.
