Pinehurst Woman Charged In Murder-For-Hire Plot Diane Huber Paid An Undercover Officer To Carry Out Killing, Authorities Say

Authorities arrested a Pinehurst, Idaho, woman Monday, saying she paid an undercover officer to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against a relative.

Diane Huber, 41, was being held in the Kootenai County Jail on a charge of solicitation to commit murder. Bond was set at $500,000.

Officers from the Pinehurst Police Department, Idaho Department of Law Enforcement and the Idaho State Police converged on Huber and arrested her about 1:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the Tidyman’s Grocery store on U.S. Highway 95, said Wayne Longo, special agent in charge of the state Criminal Investigations Bureau in Coeur d’Alene.

Pinehurst Police Chief Brad Kitchen said only that Huber “anticipated hiring an accident to happen.” Kitchen refused to identify the intended victim or provide details about the intended victim’s gender, age or exact relationship to Huber.

Kitchen said the intended victim was a relative who lives out of state and may still be in danger. “I’d rather not get into specifics at this point.”

Huber is involved in a custody dispute with the intended victim, according to Kitchen.

Police said Huber met several times with an Idaho Department of Law Enforcement undercover officer over the past 2 months and talked about the location and manner of death.

Huber allegedly paid the undercover officer $5,000 on Aug. 11. She met with the officer and signed over the registration of her car as final payment shortly before her arrest, Longo said.

Kitchen said police discovered the murderfor-hire plot when Huber discussed it with an acquaintance. That person informed the police, the chief said.
