Covenant Christian To Dedicate Waterfall

Nina Culver Correspondent

In a rare celebration, the people of Covenant Christian Church will dedicate a waterfall during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

Fourteen months in the making, the four-foot-high piece of nature is situated in the church’s entryway. The cascading water is surrounded by moss, flowers and even tiny trees.

“It is so cool,” says Pastor Michael Rice-Sauer. “It looks like a mountain glen when you walk in the door.

“We don’t have a lot of outside windows, so we decided to invite nature in.”

The idea of an indoor waterfall was suggested to him by church member Ted Parrish more than a year ago.

“It was really his vision,” says Rice-Sauer.

The project grew from there, but it didn’t happen overnight. “It was a slow process.”

The sight of the waterfall inspired Rice-Sauer, a nature lover and Nashville native, to pen a song for the occasion. He will perform the piano composition “Living Waters” at the dedication on Sunday.

The church is located at 5616 S. Palouse Highway.
