Women Get Maximum Terms Two Sentenced To Prison For Killing Of Gun Shop Owner

Associated Press

Miranda Johnson and Valerie Chard have received maximum sentences for the killing of an East Wenatchee gun shop owner.

Johnson, 18, will serve 26 years in prison for the first-degree murder of Darrel E. Sisson.

Douglas County Superior Court Judge John Bridges on Tuesday sentenced Chard, 18, to 15 years in prison, the maximum for second-degree murder.

Chard’s testimony was critical in sending a third participant in Sisson’s killing, Thomas D. Davis, to prison for life after a jury convicted him of aggravated first-degree murder.

Both women apologized to Sisson’s family.

Bridges declined their pleas for leniency, and noted they would still be fairly young when they left prison.

Davis and Chard went to rob Sisson’s gun shop in February, with Johnson outside keeping watch. As Sisson bent down to unlock a case, Davis shot him twice in the head. The three loaded dozens of guns into Chard’s car and drove to King County.

A few days earlier, when the three were in the shop, Sisson wrote their license plate number on a pamphlet and described them to friends as suspicious people.

Authorities searched for the car and the day after the killing, Lake Forest Park police pulled over Chard’s car and arrested the two women. Chard admitted to the killing and told officials where to find Davis.
