Canada Seeks Quick End To Postal Strike
The government introduced legislation Monday to end Canada’s 2-week-old nationwide postal strike.
Public Works Minister Alfonso Gagliano said the mail could be moving by Thursday or Friday if the legislation makes its way through Parliament without major roadblocks by opposition parties.
Leaders of the 45,000 striking postal workers had threatened civil disobedience to show their displeasure with the legislation, but only scattered disruptions were reported Monday.
The postal workers’ union and the postal agency have been negotiating since April, but they have been unable to resolve deep differences over wages and workload.
