Eastern Washington University’s promising non-conference display continued Friday when the Eagles defeated Columbia 68-59 in an opening-round game of The Jam Fest, hosted by Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo.
Eastern Washington’s fourth win in five games puts the Eagles in today’s championship game against Colorado State. The Rams (5-1) defeated Troy State (1-5) 71-47 in the other opening-round game.
For Eastern Washington, forward Karim Scott and guard Deon Williams scored 20 points each to lead the victory. Scott’s eight rebounds were a team high, as were Williams’ five assists and four steals.
After falling behind 7-2, Eastern rallied and first took the lead at 8-7. By halftime, the Eagles led 34-23.
A tip-in by Williams gave EWU its biggest lead, 40-25 with 16:36 remaining. The Eagles maintained a lead of 8 to 10 points through most of the half.

Tyler Jordan’s finger roll layup along the baseline with 5.5 seconds remaining lifted the Pirates over the Bearcats in a Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges game at Salem, Ore.
Freshman guard Ryan Nelson made all six of his 3-point attempts and 7 of 8 shots overall to lead the Pirates with 20 points.
