Huskies Sign Wrenn

Compiled From Wire Services

The Washington Huskies have landed 6-foot-7 forward Doug Wrenn, one of the state’s premier basketball prospects.

Wrenn, from Seattle’s O’Dea High School, announced he has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Huskies. As a junior, Wrenn led O’Dea to the Washington high school Class AA championship and a 29-0 record. He averaged 16.9 points during the regular season.

In an agreement struck with federal prosecutors in Phoenix, Stevin Smith, 25, and Isaac Burton, 24, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. The two former basketball players for Arizona State admitted taking bribes for fixing four games in 1994.

The FBI also announced a 72-count indictment against four men accused of conspiring to fix games. More indictments are expected.

The NCAA said there would be no sanctions against Arizona State.

The conspiracy charge against Smith, the school’s No. 2 career scorer, and Burton carries a possible five-year prison sentence and $250,000 fine.
