Paving To Help Keep Children Off Street
The neighborhood just north of Super-1 Foods is a little bit safer, thanks to efforts by the city and the owner of a nearby mobile home park.
Neighbors including City Councilman Clay Larkin noticed children playing on busy Idaho Street next to a mobile home park.
“Youngsters ride along on their bikes and have come close to getting hit,” said Larry Gilman, owner of the mobile home park.
So Gilman, Larkin and the rest of the concerned neighbors talked to city officials about the problem.
As soon as the weather warms up in the spring, the city will put in pavement starting on the northeast corner of Idaho and Mullan streets and extending north a few blocks until it connects with the closest sidewalk, Larkin said.
“We just don’t want to see any more problems,” he said.
The city is putting in signs to direct pedestrians and bicyclists to use the land where the path will be instead of using Idaho Street. The land looks like private property but isn’t, Gilman said.
He has volunteered to snowplow the path this winter.
