Stormwater Issues Subject Of Meeting
The last in a series of public meetings on stormwater problems in southeast Spokane is scheduled for Wednesday.
Spokane County utility officials will talk about their recommendations for channeling stormwater on Moran Prairie, Glenrose Prairie, Browne Mountain and Central Park.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Chase Middle School cafeteria.
Residents who want to be briefed on the background leading up to Wednesday’s meeting are encouraged to arrive at 6:40 p.m.
McCaslin town meeting on Tuesday
Spokane County Commissioner Kate McCaslin will host her final town hall meeting of the year at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Rockford.
The meeting will take place in Rockford’s City Hall.
McCaslin hopes residents will give her input on their concerns and priorities for local government. All topics are open for discussion.
West Valley SCOPE meets Thursday
West Valley SCOPE will hold a community meeting and potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at Millwood Town Hall, 9103 E. Frederick. A sign-up sheet for potluck items is available at the SCOPE office, 9411 E. Trent.
SCOPE will be collecting donations for the Spokane Valley Food Bank at the community meeting. It also is seeking volunteers to help with community safety programs.
Business group honors lawmaker
The Association of Washington Business (AWB) has awarded Sen. Bob McCaslin its 1997 Cornerstone Award for his 97-percent pro-business voting record.
McCaslin was among 81 state legislators who received the award, which is given to those legislators who vote in favor of AWB’s legislative priorities at least 80 percent of the time.
Pet licensing clinic today
A pet microchip and licensing clinic will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. today at Petsmart, 14024 E. Sprague.
Santa will be available for pet pictures.
Microchips cost $15 per pet. Owners must bring their animal’s proof of license. The clinic is sponsored by Spokane County Animal Shelter and Partners for Pets.
YMCA launches fund campaign
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is about to launch another phase of fund-raising for its planned Spokane Valley facility at Mirabeau Point.
A Dec. 16 breakfast at the Valley Doubletree Hotel will kick off the campaign. The agency hopes to raise $5.4 million for the Valley swim center, to help renovate the downtown YMCA and to replace old cabins at Camp Reed.
