New Faces: SpoAnimal C.A.R.E. has hired Dr. Lisa Branford as staff veterinarian in charge of its low-cost clinic. Branford was most recently employed by the Spokane Valley Animal Hospital and has more than 17 years of veterinary experience.

Megan Gilmartin has been appointed vice president of Commercial Creamery Co. Gilmartin will be responsible for the Creamery’s domestic sales and marketing and will be based in Seattle.

Edward Neunherz has recently joined Global Credit Union as Vice President of Corporate Communication and Marketing. Neunherz previously served as Executive Director of the Spokane Lilac Festival Association a position he assumed following his retirement from the Air Force in 1993.

Seafirst Bank has announced that Scott Rudy as joined as a vice president in private banking. Rudy, who formerly worked for First Interstate Bank, is responsible for providing clients with loan, investment and other banking services.

Karen Stratton has joined Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities Company, Inc., as the Community Relations Liaison. Stratton was previously the Director of Student and Campus Relations at Washington State University and a training coordinator for the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Several faculty positions were filled recently at Washington State University at Spokane. They were:

Dennis Clifton will chair the pharmacy practice. He holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Kentucky.

David Wang joins as an associate professor in architecture. Wang holds a doctorate in architecture from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Margaret Mortz is an associate professor in electrical engineering and computer science. She holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of California Los Angeles.

George Capowich is a visiting assistant professor in criminal justice. He holds a doctorate in pharmacy in criminology and criminal justice from Providence College in Rhode Island.

Michael Lowe has been hired as the Director of Emergency Services for the American Red Cross Inland Northwest Chapter. Lowe retired as a Major in the Air Force after 23 years of service and was most recently employed in the Special Education Department at Shadle Park High School in School District 81.

Windermere Real Estate/Leroy Johnson, Incorporated has announced the addition of two sales associates. Dexil and Thea Rold, new to real estate, have worked together for the past 16 years in insurance and financial planning. Dexil holds a master of science degree in financial services and has served with Rotary International, the Spokane Planning Council and North Idaho Life Underwriters. Thea is the secretary for the Greater Spokane Music Festival Association.

Rob Liljenberg has joined Windermere Real Estate/North Wall Street, Inc. office as a sales associate. Liljenberg, who has 18 years of real estate experience with Plese Realty, previously worked in consumer mortgage lending.

Moving Up:

Max Faller has been named vice president and manager of the new First Security Bank branch in Post Falls. Faller joined First Security in 1987 as a consumer loan officer at the Caldwell, Idaho branch.

Mutual of Omaha Co.s has appointed William Love as a District Sales Manager in the Spokane Division Office, responsible for Northern Idaho, Western Montana and parts of the Spokane area. He has seven years with the company and 11 years in the industry.

John Reisbig has been appointed by Mutual of Omaha Co.s as a District Sales Manager in the Spokane Division Office, responsible for Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon and parts of the Spokane area. He has eight years with the company and 27 years in the industry.

Tricia Piper has been promoted from Director of Catering and Special Events to Assistant Clubhouse Manager for the Spokane Country Club. Her new responsibilities will include operation of the club’s two restaurant facilities, employee training, and coordination of banquets and special events.

Starting Up:

Randall Kenworthy has recently started Five Star Productions, a video production business, specializing in the area of corporate marketing and training videos. Kenworthy has 13 years experience in the video profession and will offer services ranging from freelance videography to full-service producing.

Elected:

Eastern Washington Escrow Association has elected the following officers: President, Robert Golden, Washington Trust Bank; vice president, DeeAnn Neuman, PacWest Services Inc.; secretary, Bette Teter, First American Title Co.; treasurer, Linda Cash, Inland Empire Escrow Inc.

Susan Brann has been elected a national director of the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants for the 1997-98 fiscal year. Brann is a financial analyst for Olsy North America (formerly Olivetti) in Liberty Lake.

The Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council has installed eleven new board members: Alanna Crouch, Saint George’s School; Richard Peterson, Evern Securities; Sally Kramer, Deaconess Medical Center; Danielle Burton-Williams, Deaconess Medical Center; Susan Hannan, Hecla Mining Co.; Ann Koedding, Altek Inc.; Betty Hubbard, Yamana Resources; Colleen Striegel, New Media Ventures; Carol Williams, Trinity Universal Insurance Co.; Mary Caruso, senior Girl Scout; and Hope Fleischauer, senior Girl Scout.

Kudos:

Certified management consultant William Olson, CEO of Effective Management Systems Corp., is listed in the 1998-1999 edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. Individuals are selected for listing based on the positions or responsibilities they hold and their levels of achievement. Olson has been a management and organizational development consultant since 1980, specializing in productivity and work management.

The Idaho State Bar has honored the following Inland Northwest attorneys:

Richard McFadden, of McFadden Law Offices in St. Maries, received the 1997 Distinguished Lawyers award. McFadden, a former Benewah County magistrate and past president of the First District Bar, was described as a “soft spoken, small-town lawyer with a gentle demeanor and a big heart.”

Linda Pall, of Moscow, received the 1997 Service Award for outstanding contributions to the profession, community and state. Pall, who helped resurrect the bar’s Family Law Section, was co-founder of the Family Law council of community property states.

The Washington State Medical Association has honored Drs.John Moyer and George Schneider, both of Spokane. They were cited for their distinguished service and for their work on behalf of the community, patients and the medical profession.

The National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Continued Excellence Award was given to Victoria Mire, a county agent. Mire, who earlier received the Distinguished Service Award, has continued to be involved in professional improvement programs, the promotion of professional development of others and leadership.

Zak Designs has received the Rookie of the Year Award for 1997 from Walt Disney Consumer Products. The award is presented for outstanding sales growth by newcomers in international markets. Zak also received the Special Service award from the Wishing Star Foundation, a local service organization that makes wishes come true for children with life-threatening diseases.

The Community Colleges of Spokane has renamed the district’s administration building in honor of retired educator and administrator Max Snyder. The Max M. Snyder District Administration Building, located on the campus of Spokane Community College, houses central services for the 28,000-student system. CCS trustees also established the Max M. Snyder Scholarship Endowment, which will benefit community college students.

The Spokane County Domestic Violence Consortium has honored three individuals or organizations for their outstanding contributions to the prevention of family violence:

Debby Markin, clinical nurse specialist at Sacred Heart Medical Center, was cited for her dedication and involvement in the development and implementation of Sacred Heart’s domestic violence policy and her continued involvement in the prevention of intimate partner violence by lecturing on assault management training at various institutions.

Sue Manfred, director of the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, was honored for her contributions to the development of the Children’s Waiting Room at the Courthouse campus and her continued contributions through her work at the crisis center.

The Spokane Sexual Assault Center was selected as an honoree because of its involvement in the prevention, education, advocacy and treatment for victims of family violence.

Opportunities:

Positive Ag-Stewards of Idaho’ Land sponsored scholarship applications will be accepted until January 30, 1998 and can be obtained at any local high school career counseling office or from Patricia Dailey, Idaho Wheat Commission in Boise (208) 334-2353.

Students are eligible for the three $1,000, $750 and $500 1997-98 scholarships if they are an Idaho resident and have completed or plan to complete high school prior to September 1998.

Winners will be selected based primarily on an essay submission addressing the topic: The Next Green Generation. Positive Ag is an environmental task force supported by the Idaho Wheat Commission and work throughout the state to provide information on positive ways today’s farmers are helping to improve the quality of life for consumers.

Events:

Wednesday - Associated Industries will conduct a training workshop entitled, “It’s About Respect: Making Your Workplace Harassment-Free,” from 8 a.m. to noon at 920 N. Washington. The fee for members is $49, and $75 for non-members.

Friday - Lori Silverman, owner of Partners for Progress, will conduct a seminar entitled “Key Steps in Developing, Implementing and Evaluating a Strategic Planning Process in Your Firm,” from 8 a.m. to noon in the SIRTI board room, 664 N. Riverpoint Blvd. The seminar is sponsored by Northwest AGC. The cost is $95 for AGC members and $145 for non-members. To register call 535-0391.
