After 2-1/2 hours of play under almost hopeless conditions during a thunderstorm, St. Louis finally defeated Southern Methodist 1-0 in four overtimes Sunday in an NCAA men’s Division I soccer quarterfinal.

The Billikens prevailed 5-3 in a shootout to end the lengthy match. Craig Corbett scored on St. Louis’ fifth attempt in the shootout to clinch the match.

St. Louis (17-4-3) will play Virginia (18-3-2) Friday in the semifinal round at Richmond, Va. The other semifinal will pair Indiana (23-0-0) and UCLA (20-2).
