Stars Are Flying High
Not even the Dallas Stars could have envisioned the success they’re experiencing, particularly with a growing injured list that now includes league-leading scorer Mike Modano.
“Everybody knows those guys are out,” said the Stars’ Bob Bassen. “Sometimes a situation like this brings out the best in everybody.”
Actually, no one has been doing better than the Stars so far. They became the first NHL team this season to reach 20 victories and their 44 points leads the league.
Devils trade MacLean
Right wing John MacLean, the New Jersey Devils’ career leader with 701 points in 15 seasons, was traded Sunday with defenseman Ken Sutton to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Doug Bodger and left wing Dody Wood.
On the ice
The visiting Edmonton Oilers scored on three of their first seven shots, but Chicago’s Eric Daze had two goals in a 3-3 tie.
In Miami, Florida defeated Washington 5-4 as goalie John Vanbiesbrouck moved into 15th place in all-time wins with 295.
