Dollar Higher Against Yen And Mark
The dollar rose against the Japanese yen and German mark Monday in quiet trading as an influential Japanese official indicated authorities were not prepared to intervene in the currency market to support the slumping yen.
The rise marked the dollar’s fourth 5-1/2-year high in six sessions vs. the yen and a 1-1/2-month peak against the mark.
“It was a lazy day where we drifted up,” said Thomas Lapinski, chief dealer at MTB Bank Corp.
