Tci Makes More Cable System Swaps

TCI Communications Inc. is swapping cable systems in California, the Southeast and the Midwest with U S West Media Group.

The cable system swap announced Wednesday involves more than 1 million customers including systems in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Michigan.

Like two other deals announced Tuesday, the latest trade is designed to help the companies involved rearrange their cable holdings into bigger clusters to make it easier to market services.

Under the tentative agreement, TCI is swapping systems in southeast Florida, the Sacramento Valley of California and Peachtree, Ga., serving about 508,000 customers, for U S West Media Group systems in suburban Chicago, southern Illinois and central Michigan, serving about 542,000 customers.
