Chad Little Autograph Session To Benefit Vanessa Behan Nursery

NASCAR driver Chad Little will present a benefit autograph signing session from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Players and Spectators restaurant, 12828 E. Sprague.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, which provides shelter to abused and neglected children.

The event will include a silent auction of a John Deere pit crew uniform, including racing gloves and a helmet visor autographed by Little, a Spokane native. There will be a raffle for the chance to race against Little on a Daytona video game. Watts Automotive will display the No. 97 John Deere show car at the signing.

Fans can purchase Chad Little/ John Deere racing merchandise and get a professional photo taken with Little. Players and Spectators will donate 7 percent of lunch and dinner sales Friday to the nursery.

In addition, DK Motorsports Collectibles will hold a children’s toy and basic needs drive for the nursery through Friday. Items for children 6 and under can be dropped of at the autograph signing or at DK Motorsports, 104 S. Dartmouth.

Dance group stages ‘Toy Shelf’

Dance Theatre Northwest will present “The Toy Shelf” at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday at The Met.

The holiday tale combines dance, singing and drama, and is geared toward families. It will showcase the talents of 16 members and apprentices of the Valley’s Dance Theatre Northwest, as well as 22 children from area dance schools.

Guest artists Jim Thomas, Jami Flanery, Michael Muzatko and Joe Hofer also will perform. Corrine Morrow will sign for the deaf.

Veritas, the Inland Empire Boys Choir will perform a pre-show concert at 1:30 p.m and 6:30 p.m. in The Met lobby.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Call 922-3023 for information.

‘Grandma’s Christmas Surprise’

Valley Repertory Theater’s holiday production opens this weekend.

“Grandma’s Christmas Surprise,” which features local actors who have helped create the show in a workshop process, is about a family’s Christmas Eve visit to Grandma’s house. As her family gathers around her, a surprise comes into Grandma’s life.

The show debuted Friday night and will be perfomed again at 2 and 7 p.m. both today and Sunday. It will also be staged Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and next Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students and $3 for children age 6 and younger. A special group rate for 10 or more people is available at $3 per ticket.

Valley Rep is at the southeast corner of Sprague Avenue and Pines Road. The theater entrance is in the rear. Call 927-6878 for reservations.

Utility seeks board members

Modern Electric Water Company is accepting nominations for two positions on its board of directors.

Each term lasts three years. The deadline for applying is Jan. 5. All property owners within Modern’s district are eligible.

Library board meets Thursday

The Spokane County Library District Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly meeting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will take place at the Argonne Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road. The public is welcome.

FBLA members are Santa’s elves

Members of Future Business Leaders of America at Central Valley High School are courting Christmas shoppers at the Spokane Valley Mall this weekend and next.

Through their temporary business at the mall, called Santa Express Yourself, the students will be selling and delivering gift bags filled with coupons and goodies.

All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes.

Bus drivers’ food drive

Bus drivers for Central Valley School District will be collecting food for the Valley Food Bank today.

The food drive at the Sprague and McDonald Tidyman’s store will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The idea came about as a way for our drivers to say thank you to the community,” said coordinator Becky Tifft.
