Freeman Grapplers Put Out Extra Effort

Freeman wrestling is young and the turnout is small, but aspirations are large for some of the team’s youngsters.

“What I really like is their work ethic,” said coach Ted Lundgren. “They are putting forth extra effort to overcome the fact there are not a lot of wrestlers.”

The Scotties This year are in a four-team Northeast A League with Colfax, Reardan and Kettle Falls.

They’ll likely be part of a combined A/B regional tournament setup with other schools in Eastern Washington.

“We hope that’s what comes out of the WIAA,” said Lundgren.

His squad this year includes but one senior and only three juniors.

Eric Fulkerson, a 135-pounder, is the lone senior and team captain. Juniors include Bill Morphy at 148 pounds, Jeff Wigen at 168 and Chris Hodl at 168.

The three, said Lundgren, are good competitors with high goals.

Returned to the lineup is sophomore 122-pounder Gabe Martinez, joined by freshman Tyrone Schlect. Freshmen Marc Hildescheim is at 101 and Buddy Robinson, a transfer from Alaska, is at 115.

Sophomores Chris Fulkerson and Matt Reeves are battling for 129. Travis Duncan and Andy Duncan, who are not related, are at 141.

Scotties 178-pounder is junior Cody Owen. Sophomores Brandon Marchand, Adam Howard and Jason Ruchert man the 190-through-275 weight classes.
