Christmas Fund 1997 Moran Prairie Pupils Donate $342 From Their Own Piggy Banks

Beverly Vorpahl Staff writer

Children helping children - is there any sweeter scenario?

Students at Moran Prairie Elementary School shook their piggy banks to collect money for The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund.

“In the spirit of giving,” read the letter from the school, the Parent-Teacher Group sponsored a drive, asking the children “to look in their piggy banks and in their hearts” to help others have a little bit brighter Christmas.

The $342.55 they collected is an impressive amount for young children to come up with. The money was collected in the form of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters as well as bills.

“These children are aware that there are many children less fortunate than themselves,” the letter said.

Thanks, Moran Prairie students. You’re tops!

A woman sending an anonymous $75 contribution to the Christmas Fund wrote, “I pray that every family in need will be able to receive their benefits.”

An anonymous couple gave $51 in memory of their son.

Gifts of $50 were tallied Tuesday from Carol Bjork, Colbert; Jay and Brigitta Landreth, Tum Tum, Wash.; and Bonnie and Nate Narrance, Colbert, who wrote, “Hope this donation, given in love and the need to share with others, will provide some caring comfort to those in need.”
