More Men Than Women Shop At Franklin Mall
More men shop at Franklin Park mall than women.
It sounds about as believable as saying more women hang out in singles bars than men, but it’s true.
Angela Via, Franklin Park Mall’s marketing director, said a mall survey showed that male shoppers outnumber women by 55 to 45 percent.
“That’s really unique,” Via said. “I think it has to do with the convenience of this mall. Men tend to want to get in and get out (of shopping) as quick as possible.”
Last week, Jon Sander shopped with his daughter Mikayla at Franklin Park Mall. He was among one of many men in the mall that shopped and had their gifts wrapped, all at reasonable prices.
“You can go into (Montgomery) Wards and just get what you need without a lot of hassle,” Sander said.
“I like the little novelty shops out here,” he added. “Here, you can just go in a store and pick up something in peace without a thousand women picking at it.”
Jack’s World of Cards, a popular sporting goods and sport card collectors store, draws a lot of male shoppers to the mall.
Store owner Jack Amos said he likes the laid-back feel to the mall. He also said rent is cheaper at Franklin Park than it is at larger malls.
“I know a lot of guys come here just because they don’t have to hassle with parking,” Amos said. “It’s a lot easier here than down the street.”
