Carlander Leads Sasquatch To Victory

Alana Carlander scored 22 points Friday night as the Community Colleges of Spokane women’s basketball team downed Lower Columbia 58-46 in the first round of the Clackamas Crossover Tournament at Oregon City, Ore.

Scoring more than one-third of her team’s total, Carlander helped the Sasquatch boost their record to 9-2.

CCS will face Mt. Hood at 6 p.m. in the second round today. Mt. Hood downed Whatcom CC in the eightteam tournament’s opening game.

After the teams were tied at 24 at halftime, Spokane penetrated Lower Columbia’s zone defense to dominate the second 30 minutes. Carlander led the way, hitting four 3-point baskets and scoring 16 of her points after intermission.

Shelley Massingale and Kelli Pilkington scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Spokane.

Lower Columbia (5-3) missed all 13 of its 3-point attempts.

Nine players shared the scoring load as the Sasquatch romped to victory in the Highline Crossover Tournament at Des Moines, Wash.

Spokane (7-2) broke away from a 38-34 halftime lead with 53 second-half points.

Brian Donald led CCS with 19 points. Modesto Spencer scored 15. Cedrick Day had 13 points and rebounds.
