Cheney Holds On Border League

Kara Weitman wouldn’t allow the opposition’s 14 consecutive points to decide a Border League girls game.

Weitman scored five of her 23 points in the final 2 minutes Friday as visiting Cheney (4-1, 3-0) defeated Lewiston 42-41 in a game with seesaw action.

Cheney led by 10 when leading scorer Anna Getz sat down with four fouls. The Bengals (2-7, 2-3) responded with a 14-0 run.

Weitman hit a 3-pointer with 2 minutes left, then added a jumper 30 seconds later to again seize a lead for the Blackhawks.

Lindsay Herbert and Laura Dodge scored 16 of their combined 40 points in the third quarter to guide the visiting Timberwolves (11-0, 7-0) over the Eagles (1-4, 1-2).

Lake City held WV to two baskets in the third quarter. The Timberwolves finished with just six turnovers.

The Vikings outrebounded Clarkston 16-10 in the second half.

Kris Sly had seven assists and led a late surge, and Chris Gregg scored 22 off the bench to help the Eagles (2-3, 2-1) defeat the visiting Timberwolves (3-3, 2-2).

Sly and Brad Groh hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game at 66 with 1:30 left, then Sly followed with a steal and layup. Gregg hit two of his team’s eight 3-pointers and made 6 of 6 free throws.
