Harchuck Nails Late 3 As Shadle Tips Ferris

Sara Harchuck drilled a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to give Shadle Park a 51-48 victory over league-favorite Ferris Friday night in Greater Spokane League girls basketball.

Brooke Olzendam put Shadle ahead with a 3-pointer with 45 seconds to go, but Amy George tied the game at 48 with a 3 for Ferris with 16 seconds left.

The game was close all the way with Ferris (3-2, 2-1) leading by one after one quarter and by two after three. The Highlanders (3-2, 1-2) took a four-point lead at the half.

Harchuck led a balanced attack with 10 points. The Highlanders only hit 12 of 24 free throws. George led Ferris with 19 points.

Angel Fairbanks scored 15 points and Sarah Bayne had a career-high 12 as the Pirates (5-0, 3-0) continued their best start in years by beating the Wildcats (0-5, 0-3).

The Panthers (3-2, 3-0) went on a 38-2 run in the middle quarters to beat the visiting Tigers (2-2, 1-2).

Brandi Curry had seven rebounds and Danielle Zelinski four steals for Mead, which hit 29 of 60 shots.

The Tigers had 23 turnovers and made just 12 of 45 shots.
