Firefighters Douse Apartment Blaze

From Staff And Wire Reports

A fire in a first-floor unit sent smoke pouring throughout a Spokane apartment building Friday night.

Firefighters arrived at the 175-unit Lincoln Village complex, 210 E. Lincoln Road, shortly before 10 p.m. They quickly extinguished the blaze, but spent an hour and a half ventilating the building, said battalion chief Joe Stapleton.

The fire was caused by a faulty electrical cord on a bedroom lamp, he said.

It ignited the lampshade and dried flower arrangements on a nightstand. The fire then spread to the drapes and carpet.

The unit’s smoke detector wasn’t working, Stapleton said. No major injuries were reported.
