Duke Crushes Mercer

Elton Brand scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, leading No. 3 Duke to an easy 126-64 win over Mercer on Sunday in Durham, N.C.
Trajan Langdon had 19 points and Mike Chappell 18 for the Blue Devils (10-1), who had six players in double figures. Chris Carrawell scored 14 and Chris Burgess 10 for Duke.
The Blue Devils’ point total was the third highest ever by a Duke team and their highest since a 130-54 win over Harvard on Nov. 25, 1989.
Evans Davis scored 21 points to lead Mercer (3-7).

At San Juan, Puerto Rico, Kent McCausland scored 17 points to lead the Hawkeyes (8-1) to a victory over the Tarzans in the first round of the Christmas San Juan Shootout.
Iowa took a 16-4 lead, and the blowout was assured by halftime, when the Hawkeyes led 51-25.
The Hawkeyes dominated the boards by a 49-22 margins.
Jose Colon led the Tarzans with nine points.

At Flagstaff, Ariz., substitute Michael McNair scored 20 points as the Lumberjacks (5-4) beat the Anteaters (2-6).
McNair was 5 of 7 from the field - including four 3-pointers in five attempts - as the Lumberjacks made 61 percent of their shots to build a 41-25 halftime lead.
Irvine trailed by as many as 40 points in the second half and never got closer than 14.
Ben Jones led Irvine with 16 points.
Brown 70, Loyola Marymount 65
At Providence, R.I., Aaron Butler came off the bench to score 18 points and Paul Krasinski netted 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Bears (3-7) to a win over the Lions (2-7), snapping Brown’s five-game losing skid.
Haywood Eaddy tossed in a career-high 30 points for the Lions.
