Fake $50 Bill Turns Up At Downtown Tavern

From Staff And Wire Reports

Another fake $50 bill has turned up, this time at a Spokane tavern.

An employee of Outback Jack’s, 321 W. Sprague, told officers that at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, a man paid for his beer with a bill that looked suspicious.

The waitress said she questioned the man about the money but finally accepted it. Then she called police.

When officers arrived, the 32-year-old man said he had gotten the money in exchange for a car stereo he had sold to someone in Hillyard.

Police said the bill obviously is bogus. The man wasn’t arrested, but police took his name and have handed the case over to the Secret Service.

The Secret Service continues its investigation into counterfeiting in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Since mid-November, about 40 such reports have been made in the Inland Northwest. , DataTimes
